Jakarta: More than 1000 people take part in the Vinolia Youth Vocalist Festival. For the eight finalists, October 9 1987 may well be the gateway toward their champagne wishes and caviar dreams. Tonight in the grand setting of the Flores Room in Hotel Borobudur Intercontinental Jakarta, these eight finalists, four men and four women, aged 16 to 22, will compete in the crooning contest. The finalists are obliged to sing the Vinolia theme song in the competition.Among these finalists only three will be awarded a prize. The first prize is a trip to Hong Kong plus a cash prize. Second and third prizes consist of trophy and cash prizes.

Elfa Secioria, the composer of the theme song said,”PT Unilever Indonesia that produced Vinolia Splash Cologne product approached me and Wieke Gur. for a jingle. The initial idea was to create a song that conveys the coolness of Vinolia Splash Cologne. But unbeknown to us, the jingle shot up the chart at Elshinta Radio. A jingle has suddenly become a pop song! These created quite a controversy among the listeners of the radio station. Some of them object to the fact that a jingle should be put on the chart”.

Like the previous year, the Festival will be backed by a strong cast of local distinguished artists. Elfa’s Big Band, Harvey Malaihollo, Elfa’s Singers, Vina Panduwinata, Ruth Sahanaya will take part in the event. Bob Tutupoli will emcee the event. This Festival was held annually until 1988.
